Since the late 1800's when Sicilian immigrants settled in New Orleans, March 19th has been a day of honor to St. Joseph for the relief provided during a famine in Sicily. Since that time, Catholics of all heritages have come together in New Orleans to celebrate St. Joseph's day. This blessed medal is part of that very long tradition.
