The artwork isclassic Rick Griffin! This is an official Grateful Dead Merchandising coffeemug issued in 1990 to commemorate their XXV (25

) Anniversary. Youdon’t see these offered very often – it is 28 years old and in NEW condition. Ibought it new in 1990 – and I have never used it!
The imagery isquite stunning. The mug itself is white with the imagery on one side. In thecenter there is a brilliant blue background, with skeleton clad in a red robeoverlaying the blue background. The skeleton has its left arm outstretchedabove his head holding what appears to be an image of Jerry Garcia’s famousTiger – a guitar made for him by the master guitar maker Doug Irwin.
Overlaid on topof this are letters GD – one of which is on each side of the robed skeleton.Then overlaying the GD are the Roman numerals XXV to commemorate the Dead’s 25
th
Anniversary. Overlaying all of this is the skeleton’s right arm holding a GrimmReaper’s scythe!
Finally, all ofthis imagery is circled by 25 stars also commemorating the 25
th
Anniversary.
I am guessingthat the purchaser will probably never use this as a mug and proudly display itas I have!
