    Built between 1795 and 1799, the Cabildo was the seat of Spanish colonial government in New Orleans, and is now the Louisiana State Museum. It’s located on Jackson Square, next to St. Louis Cathedral. The Cabildo was the site of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, which finalized the United States’ acquisition of the Louisiana Territory from France and doubled the size of the fledgling nation.
